Professional-grade solvent reducer and flow enhancer compatible with all PFB polyurethane and alkyd products. Improves leveling, spray atomization, and brush marks on hot or dry days.
PFB Professional Reducer is a precision-blended solvent reducer and flow enhancer formulated for all PFB polyurethane and alkyd coatings. It improves spray atomization, reduces brush marks, and enhances leveling in hot or dry conditions where paint dries too fast. This is not generic paint thinner — it is specifically formulated to be chemically compatible with PFB product chemistry without weakening the paint film or affecting adhesion. Available in a 1-quart size, one bottle is typically enough to thin 2-3 gallons of paint for spray application.
Surface Preparation
No surface preparation required — this is a paint additive, not a coating
Ensure your paint container is clean and free of debris before adding reducer
Mix reducer into paint thoroughly before application — stir for 2-3 minutes
Test the thinned mixture on a scrap surface before applying to your project
How to Apply
Application method
Add to PFB polyurethane or alkyd products and stir thoroughly. Do not add to waterborne products.
Number of coats
N/A — this is a paint additive.
Dry time
Adding reducer will slightly increase dry time by 30-60 minutes per coat.
Temperature
Use reducer when painting above 75°F or in low humidity to prevent the paint from drying too fast.
Coverage
Add 10-15% by volume for spray application. Add 5-10% for brush and roller in hot conditions.
Complete Your System
Get the best results by pairing PFB Professional Reducer with these compatible PFB products.
Can I use generic paint thinner instead of PFB Reducer?
We strongly recommend PFB Professional Reducer for best results. Generic paint thinners may contain impurities that cause fisheye, orange peel, or adhesion failure. PFB Reducer is chemically matched to PFB products.
How much reducer should I add?
For spray application: 10-15% by volume. For brush/roller in hot weather: 5-10%. Never exceed 20% reducer or you will weaken the paint film.
Can I use reducer with PFB Eco Marine Coating?
No. PFB Eco Marine Coating is a waterborne product. Solvent-based reducer will damage waterborne paints. If Eco Marine Coating needs thinning, use clean water (up to 5%).
Does reducer affect the color or finish?
No. When used at recommended ratios, PFB Reducer will not change the color, gloss, or performance of the paint. Excessive reducer (above 20%) can reduce gloss and film build.
