PFB Protective Clear Coat
Clear Gloss · 1 Gallon
Marine grade polyurethane clear coat that locks in color, adds depth to any topcoat, and delivers a hard protective layer against abrasion, moisture, and UV degradation.
PFB Protective Clear Coat is a marine-grade polyurethane clear finish that adds a hard protective layer over any topcoat. It locks in color, adds optical depth, and shields the underlying paint from UV damage, abrasion, salt spray, and chemical exposure. Clear coats are standard practice on high-end yacht finishes and commercial vessels — they dramatically extend the life of the topcoat underneath. This product is compatible with all PFB polyurethane and alkyd topcoats and can also be applied over bare stained wood for a durable marine varnish alternative.
Surface Preparation
The base topcoat must be fully cured — wait at least 24 hours after final topcoat application
Lightly scuff the topcoat with 320-grit sandpaper for adhesion
Remove all sanding dust with a tack cloth or compressed air
Surface must be completely clean, dry, and free of wax or silicone
How to Apply

Foam roller or HVLP spray gun for best results. Brush application is possible but may show brush marks on large flat surfaces.

Not required, but highly recommended. Clear coat adds 2-3 years of additional protection to your topcoat and makes the finish easier to maintain and clean. It is standard practice on professional yacht finishes.
Can I apply clear coat over any paint?
PFB Protective Clear Coat is compatible with polyurethane and alkyd marine paints. Do not apply over latex, waterborne, or chlorinated rubber paints without a compatibility test on a small area first.
Will clear coat turn yellow over time?
PFB Clear Coat is formulated with UV stabilizers to resist yellowing. On white or light-colored boats, it will remain clear for years. All clear coats will eventually yellow with extreme UV exposure, but this formula is significantly more resistant than standard marine varnishes.
How many coats of clear coat should I apply?
Two coats is standard. Three coats is recommended for boats stored outdoors year-round or in tropical climates where UV exposure is intense.
